The Minooka varsity baseball team faced off against the Joliet Central Steelmen on April 8.
In the first inning, Minooka’s Brayden Zilis drove in 4 runs on a grand slam to right field.
“The game went pretty well, we won by a lot overall. It was just a good win,”’ said Zilis.
The Indians scored 9 runs in the first inning.
Noah Pharo also contributed runs in the first inning scoring one on a groundout. Nolan Simios also hit a sacrifice fly out to score a run.
“We really woke up offensively, it was really good to jump out the gate early and get a good lead,” Michigan State commit CJ Deckinga said.
Deckinga had a huge game himself, going 3-3 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits.
Not only was the offense hot for the Indians, but their defense was solid the whole game. Nick Forillo, a right-handed pitcher, gave up only one hit and zero runs over four innings, while striking out seven and walking one.
Noah Martinez came to relief in the last inning and finished off the Steelmen, striking out 2 to end the game.
The Minooka Indians dominated the Steelman, with the final score being 11-1 Minooka.
