Do you know what the hardest stunt is in cheer?
“Probably our back handspring up. It’s hit or miss,” sophomore Caylee Placko said.
This answer was common among a few of the Minooka cheerleaders.
A back handspring up is when the flyer does a back handspring but the bases catch her legs before they go all the way around and throw her up.
“It is hard on the bases and the flyer to do their part, and if someone messes up on their part then it wont hit,” freshman Brooklyn Kozlowski stated.
Even though it is difficult, the cheerleaders said they were confident in it.
“Yes, because we all just need to work together,” sophomore Lauren Klimchack said when asked if she was confident.
But sometimes it is hard to always be confident.
“Sometimes I’m confident. But sometimes it’s hard because you’re tired,” Kozlowski said.
Being confident won’t do all the work though. Talking to yourself and your teammates will help everybody.
“I tell myself just take it piece by piece. Our stunt sequence this year is really long. We’re trying to rush into it and think of everything you’re doing. It can get stressful so I just tell myself to do one thing at a time and just be confident,” sophomore Emery Murawski said.
Taking one thing at a time seems to help as multiple of the cheerleaders said it.
“I just think about more step by step instead of, ‘Oh, I just have this.’ You just have to take it piece by piece,” Placko said.
Another common thing said by the cheerleaders when asked what they say was to push through.
“I just tell myself to push through it and we’re almost done,” sophomore Madelyn Canty said.
