Being on the girls wrestling team is harder than most people might think.
“I think most people think that it can be very difficult, which it can be, but it shouldn’t discourage you and you should keep going and be very strong mentally,” freshman Keighera Fleming said.
Belment agrees with Fleming
“It’s a lot harder than it looks, but obviously it takes a lot of strength and takes a lot more than physical strength. It also takes a lot of mental strength,” sophomore Lucy Belment said.
Wrestling isn’t always about taking the other person down; it is also about the friends and teammates you get while doing it.
“I really like how the whole team comes together and everybody is always just excited and just all want to help each other. Like even during practice we all come together and help each other and during meets. I think it’s really fun to wrestle other people and just to see how many people are doing good,” freshman Maya Decker said.
Having a good mental state is very important for wrestling and other sports.
“Although it is a team sport, the support from your teammates can help because it’s really hard and it gets mentally draining without them,” freshman Liv Gaudio said.
Her teammates agree that support is a big thing that helps you.
“One of my matches against the other team, it was very hard because most of the wrestling is mental and you have to have a very strong mental state and be able to conquer that,” Fleming said.
There are a lot of things that people don’t know about wrestling.
“I feel like people always think wrestling is a hard sport and it is but they don’t know how it will mentally help you and physically help you more but I think all around it does help even when you don’t think it will,” Decker said.
