“We have some good swimmers on the team,” said freshman Ryan Van Acker, who is on the varsity swim teem. “We’re gonna be fast and we are going to be a hard team to beat.”
The boys swimming and diving team with the Morris Co-op has their first competition on Dec. 12 at home against Pontiac High School.
Some of their goals for the individuals this year are to make the sectional roster. Head coach Andrew Porth is looking to see strong results.
“I don’t see us having my state qualifiers at this time, but we should have some good performances at our sectional,” said Porth.
Minooka has had just one state qualifier the last three years. Last year, then senior diver Taydin Murphy qualified, and the previous two years Cameron James (Class of 2023) had qualified in swimming events.
Freshman Thomas Zbranek swims the individual medley, the butterfly, and backstroke.
“I think the team will do really good this year cause there is a lot of good swimmers,” said Zbranek.
Last year, the swim team got 6th in conference and 8th in the sectional.
