Holding their early lead, Minooka’s varsity boys basketball team took the win over Lincoln-Way West with a dominating 27 forced turnovers.
This was Minooka’s first game and win of the season. Over a tough team, Minooka kicked off their season with a victory over the Warriors, 61-53, on Nov. 25 as part of the WJOL Tournament.
“I felt like no one really did it all themselves. You know, everyone chipped in and did their part and that’s how we won,” said senior Kevin Bisbee. “I feel like we rebounded the ball well, moved the ball well, and shot the ball well.”
Bisbee thought it was a great team win. None of the players had really stood out, no one went “above and beyond” to outscore one another or outperformed the other. Each held their own and played their role well.
“I think I did really well considering last year I maybe got a minute a game. And now I played 27 minutes and didn’t turn the ball over much,” says Bisbee.
Junior Zane Caves believes the team played extremely well.
“Winning our first games builds a lot of momentum for us,” he said.
Caves was proud of their defense.
“We forced a lot of turnovers, we were shooting the ball very well in the first quarter and we were getting to the rim and our defense really stood out as well,” said Caves.
Minooka’s defense was crucial in this game, and if they hadn’t held their water, they were going to drown. But, they did prove themselves and came out with a promising victory.
Minooka would later finish 3-1 in the tournament, good enough for third place.
