Did you dress up for this year’s Homecoming spirit week?
School spirit is important to the students and staff at MCHS. If it’s at football games or the dress-up days leading up to Homecoming, you will see MCHS spirit everywhere.
When students were asked what their favorite spirit day was, answers varied.
“My favorite dress-up day was probably the pajama day because it’s easy to actually follow along with it, everyone has pajamas,” sophomore Tyler Remmie said.
On the other hand, some students preferred the uniqueness of other spirit days.
“I liked Surfer vs. Biker day, and I think that was because you had freedom to go however you wanted to, go whatever direction you wanted to with it,” sophomore Maddie Schrio said.
Out of all five spirit days a common answer for the least favorite spirit day was teacher-student swap.
“Probably the teacher-student swap day because I feel like no one really did that one because it was harder to do,” sophomore Alessandra Valentin said.
Student council picks the spirit days for Homecoming week by having breakout groups, all sharing their ideas and voting on their favorites.
“So the whole student council votes on what they think is best,” sophomore student council member Maddie Schrio said.
Some students have voiced their own ideas for upcoming spirit days.
“I think we should do Barbie vs. Ken or Country vs. Country Club,” freshman Cece Rockrhor said.
Other students have more ideas.
“I would like to see Hawaiian Day, Twin Day and Jersey Day,” Remmie said.
Sophomores compared Homecoming spirit week 2023 to 2024.
“I kinda liked last year because more people participated,” Schrio said.
With the themes of this year’s Homecoming spirit week some students thought the themes were hard to dress up for.
“Some of the days yes some of the days no,” freshman Derek Przbyla said.
Some students went out and bought things to participate with their peers.
“I bought a lei for Biker vs. Surfer day. It cost like $10 dollars for a four-pack,” Rockrhor said.
On the other hand some students took another approach.
“No, I would just pick something from my closet. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy something,” Remmie said.
When asked why students think it is important to dress-up, a common answer was to show school spirit.
“It shows school spirit and it’s just fun,” Valentin said.
