The Minooka Indians sophomore football team played amazing, but could not come up with the win.
On Oct. 4, the Minooka sophomore football team played the Yorkville Foxes at home. The Indians lost 28-14.
Head coach Rob Wendlick thought the Indians played great even though they lost.
“Overall we lost, so it’s a little bit disappointing, but I thought there was a lot of great effort from the players,” head coach Rob Wendlick said.
Wendlick thought everyone gave great effort, but there were just crucial mistakes in crucial times.
“Just crucial mistakes at crucial times. … We had 3rd and 20 that we gave up a touchdown on and just mistakes we shouldn’t have made,” Wendlick said.
The defense played excellent early on, but struggled against Yorkville’s physical team in the second half. After 2 dominating quarters the Yorkville Foxes were able to defeat the Indians through the air.
“The defense played great in the first half. We stopped their run game and didn’t allow them to pass, but in the second half we fell off and allowed them to pass,” Minooka sophomore Blake Larson said.
Although the Indians lost, they had some great plays like Gage Segerberg’s touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone to start out the game and Kaden Meyer’s diving touchdown.
“I scored the first touchdown of the game. It was a 10-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone, which was pretty cool,” Segerberg said.
Meyer’s play was also exciting.
“It was a power formation and was a blast right to me. I broke a couple tackles and had a nice stiff arm and I scored by diving in the end zone,” Meyer said
