On Sept. 23, the Minooka JV soccer team faced off against Oswego in a competitive match.
Minooka ultimately lost 3-0 adding to their overall record of 5-6-1 at the time.
“Playing against Oswego is always a rivalry game. We play them close every year but unfortunately we again had trouble scoring goals,” JV coach Jim Kelly said.
The Minooka offense struggled against Oswego.
“We need to improve in the attacking 3rd of the field. We have had issues scoring goals, and we need to take more chances around the goal,” Kelly said.
Some of the players had ideas on what they could work on.
“I think we should work on some different offense drills at practice so we can improve,” sophomore Mohammed Abdullah Dastgir said.
Sophomore Connor O’Brien said he thought they needed better communication.
Kelly said, “We definitely were not ready for the fast pace of play.”
Sophomore Connor O’Brien agreed.
“We need to adapt to playing fast teams,” he said.
Sophomore Mohammed Abdullah Dastgir said if they can find a way to defend faster, they can be “unstoppable.”
Season update: As of Oct. 8, the Minooka JV soccer team’s record in 10-6-2. They recently had a 5-game winning streak against Romeoville, Lincoln-Way West, Joliet West, Plainfield Central, and Plainfield North.
