Minooka’s defense ultimately won the game for the Indians against Oswego East on Sept. 27. The Indians showed up ready to play, as the defense caused many turnovers on downs stopping the Wolves in their tracks.
“Our team played well and our defense executed on all components,” linebacker Billy Mutz said.
It didn’t take long for the Indians to get going on offense as Ty Couch scored on their first drive with a 6 y-d touchdown. Minooka’s defense held strong while the score going into halftime was 7-0.
Leading things off in the second half of the game, the offense faced some adversity.
“I had a touchdown pass to Chase Nurczyk, and it got called back for holding,” quarterback Zane Caves said.
The second half was a hard fought battle. Minooka’s defense caused a penalty due to roughing the kicker, resulting in a first down for the Wolves.
The offense faced misfortune all game.
“The elements themselves, how windy it was, another challenge of adversity,” offensive coordinator Kevin Cain said. “For not only a play caller but the kids themselves out on the field.”
The Wolves ended up getting inside the 5-yard line. Minooka’s defense let up a rushing touchdown due to the penalty.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the offense needed to get something going. Minooka’s power team was brought into the game determined to score.
Running back Jeremiah Brown was fed the rock immediately and brought the Indians 6 points. Kicker Sean Sample made the field goal making the score of the game 17-7.
Minooka’s offense got the ball back with a few minutes left in the game. They drained the clock down to improve the Indians record to 5-0, with a win over Oswego East 17-7.
