Minooka boys varsity golf completed a great win at their own invitational on Sept. 23.
They competed against teams in the SPC conference, as well as other teams such as Batavia, Lincoln-Way East, and Morris. Minooka had pulled off a cheeky win over the eight teams in the invitational, with a total score of 314.
“We didn’t play our best golf that day but Heritage Bluffs is fairly difficult for high school players,” head golf coach Jeff Petrovic said. “It continued our string of success this season in that we have finished first or second in every tournament we’ve been in this year.”
Leading his team in the right direction, Minooka’s individual players such as seniors T.J. Quinn and Luke Purcell concluded their performances in the invite in playing well.
Quinn won the individual event with a 71.
“I performed pretty well,” said Quinn. “I won by six shots, and I beat the field and I played pretty good.”
Purcell wish he would have “done a little better.”
“I left some shots out there, a couple of bad holes, but it’s alright,” Purcell said. “I hit my driver pretty good. At the end of the day it was good enough for the team and worked on getting better at conference.”
On Oct. 2, Minooka won the 3A regional at Lockport to advance to sectionals. Quinn was the individual champ.
