The girls volleyball team defeated Oswego East in two sets on Sept. 12.
Minooka played well as a team and had a lot of energy throughout the game. The student section also was a big help with the win.
The girls volleyball is ranked second in their conference with one returning starter. They are 3-0 is their conference and overall 12-9 as of Sept. 26.
“It is a great start to conference play being that we have only one returning player from last years team,” head coach Carrie Prosek said.
The volleyball team has been working hard and continuing to beat more teams as the season goes on. As a younger team it could be difficult, but they keep proving everyone wrong.
Kendall Kozak is the only returning starter from last season. In the game against Oswego East she had 9 kills and 9 assists. Kozak is ranked second in the Southwest Prairie conference with assists.
“My mindset going into our next games is we can’t win if we don’t work as a team,” Kozak said. “Since we have a lot of younger new players we have to help each other out.”
Maddie Dostall is a defensive specialist. She has very strong defense and serve receive. Against Oswego East she had 8 digs and received 13 balls with no errors. Dostall is ranked 7th for aces in the Southwest Prairie Conference.
“Something that keeps me motivated through games is that I don’t have a set position yet and I have to work for my position,” Dostall said. “I have to show the coaches that I am worthy enough for the starting spot.”
Every player has to work hard to play and become a better athlete and a better team as a whole. The girls have a very successful team and keep working at it to make it even better.
“All 15 girls players are very versatile and can play at any position,” Prosek said. “We don’t have a superstar, but a well rounded group of volleyball players who want to win.”
