Maleiah Chavez is a freshman at Minooka High School. She was previously at Minooka Junior High. This interview for Nook News has been edited for length and clarity.

Q: How was your experience at your previous school? Any clubs? Were you involved in anything at the school?

A: It was good. No, I didn’t join any clubs. I couldn’t really find anything I was interested in. 

Q: How are you liking high school so far? Is there anything specific about it that stands out?

A: It’s pretty good. I don’t know, there’s nothing specific about it. 

Q: What is your favorite part of the school day? A specific block or period?

A: Lunch, because I can see all of my friends.

Q: What’s your favorite food at lunch?

A: The cookies. I really like those cookies.

Q: What would you change about school? It could be your schedule or anything about the school.

A: I want to have A lunch on B days. D lunch just feels too late.

Q: Do you prefer high school or middle school? Do you find one better than the other?

A: High school, because I get more time to do my homework. 

Q: What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received?

A: One of those toys where the eyes pop out of its head. I don’t know why I was given that. You squeeze it and its eyes pop out!
