Maddie Kilgore is a cheerleader in the MCHS cheer team. She is a freshman, and she had the hard choice to pick between two sports she really loves — cross country and cheerleading which both start at the same time. This interview for Nook News has been edited for length and clarity.
Q: How long have you been doing cheerleading?
A: Since about 2nd grade.
Q: How long have you been doing cross country?
A: Oh, since 5th grade.
Q: What made you pick cheer over cross country?
A: Because I feel I’m better at it. Because I can do a lot more things in cheer then just running. I don’t have the endurance for it.
Q: Do you not like doing multiple sports at a time?
A: I like doing multiple sports because it keeps me busy.
Q: What is the difference between junior high cheer and high school cheer?
A: High school cheer is more of core, and there’s a lot more to it. The coaches are hard and in junior high it is just kinda like whatever. It was kinda like do this, do that, that’s it.
Q: How was your first cheer with all the girls for the game last Friday?
A: I really liked it. I mean I think Friday night lights is going to be like really fun.
Q: If you were in a movie, who would you be?
A: I just want to be like the main character because I feel I am.
