On April 13, the Minooka varsity boys tennis team hosted the annual Minooka Quad. The schools that attended were T.F. South, Joliet Catholic, and future conference opponent Bolingbrook.
The results were not exactly what had been hoped, but in the first round Minooka swept T.F. South — Minooka’s two singles players and all three doubles teams won.
Ultimately Minooka fell to JCA 3-2, but battled extremely hard in the matches lost. Then fell to Bolingbrook 4-1, but still played good tennis all around, according to Minooka head coach Peter Klepec.
Among the standout performers were Spencer Lorenz, senior, and Eli Chavez, sophomore, who filled in admirably for an absent teammate and dominated the competition in first doubles throughout the day. Their resilience and determination were commendable, earning crucial victories against tough opponents.
“Even though we were second doubles we were capable of winning at first doubles,” said Lorenz.
Similarly, junior Evan Lundeen and senior David Robinson showcased their chemistry and teamwork, securing victories in second doubles against T.F. South and JCA. Their partnership exemplified the team’s ethos of unity and support, encapsulated by the motto “Team first. Selfless.”
“This team should be very proud of how they played because everyone on the team this past weekend has to move up in the lineup and play higher competition than they may be used to,” said Klepec. “Everyone played extremely hard and played great tennis. One thing I believe is a direct result of our team’s vast improvement this year comes from how tight they are as teammates,” said Klepec.
Despite not fielding a full lineup, the team demonstrated solidarity as players turned out to support their teammates, embodying the essence of camaraderie and teamwork. As they look ahead to future competitions, Klepec is confident that their cohesive bond and collective effort will propel them to success in conference play.
