“Pure determination as a team, even better we got to do it on staff appreciation night,” said head girls lacrosse coach Katie Engel.
On April 8, the Minooka girls varsity lacrosse team added another win to their season against a talented Metea Valley team.
Throughout this game, the team had some up-and-down efforts, but the outcome in the end mattered.
With only 10 seconds left of the game and only up by 1 point, goalie Bella Cyrkiel made a game-winning save to give Minooka the win.
“Definitely nervous,” Cyrkiel said. “Didn’t want to lose the game for the team or put us in a bad position.”
“(They) played way better than expected, and played to their best ability,” said Engel.
With a final score of Minooka 11 and Metea Valley 10, this win moves the girls varsity lacrosse program to 3-2 overall.
This game was the staff appreciation game to show how much this program appreciates all the staff members and the teachers around them.
“Always nice to be honored and to have at least one student thinking that much of you to show their appreciation,” said math teacher, Mr. Matt Clark.
This start for the program has been the best yet in the history of Minooka girls lacrosse, winning the first three out of their five games.
