All players, coaches, fans and staff watched the last ball fall into the Minooka court that ended the game.
The Minooka Indians faced the Joliet West Tigers at Joliet West on Sept. 26. They went into a three-set match and Joliet West won the third set 30-28.
Minooka fought and played extremely hard against the MaxPreps-ranked 7th team in the state.
“The team’s defense was really good and we all communicated with each other,” sophomore setter Kendall Kozak said. “I think we played a good game on both sides, but definitely the outcome was different.”
With going into the third set, both teams were eager for the win. The Indians and Tigers were playing with one goal in mind, which is to secure the set. The scores fluctuated by 1 point on each side until West won by 2 points. The final score in the third set was 30-28.
“I am very proud of how the girls came out and fought till the very end. We were the underdogs going into this match and fought with one of the best teams in the state,” head volleyball coach Carrie Prosek said.
The girls played an intense match and had to focus and have the right mindset towards the game. With this comes reflection and how players learn and grow from what they just played and experienced.
“I feel like ever since the game, for future games we need to bring the same intensity and energy,” senior opposite and outside hitter Makenzie Brass said. “And know that if we play like that every single game we can go very far with the season.”
Even though the game was high intensity, the girls had great experiences from playing Joliet West — especially when everyone had to have precise movements and plays in the third set.
“The third set was very intense and exciting at the same time,” Kozak said.
The scores for the sets were Joliet West 25-20, Minooka 25-21, and Joliet West 30-28.
