Luke Purcell is on the Minooka boys golf team. He has been playing golf since seventh grade. The team qualified for state on Oct. 2 after finishing second at the Pekin sectional. This interview with Nook News has been edited for clarity and length.
Q: Has anyone in your family played golf before?
A: My dad is the only one in my family that has played golf.
Q: What have been your goals so far this season?
A: Trying to get the second spot on the team and maybe beat out TJ Quinn for No. 1.
Q: Who do you look up to in golf?
A: I look up to my dad. He has always been there every time I’m feeling down and has been the one to pick me back up.
Q: Since you’ve been playing golf, what has been the best score that you’ve shot?
A: I’ve shot even par a couple of times, but have never gone under par before.
Q: What is your favorite course that you’ve played?
A: Last summer I played at Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Fla.
Q: What is your favorite club to use?
A: Definitely driver because that’s the club I hit the farthest. And it’s fun to pull it out and just smoke it.
Q: How did it feel making state?
A: Felt really good because that was the goal for our team and I was happy for both me and the other guys on the team.
Q: What are some things you can improve on for state?
A: Definitely my short game. It wasn’t the best for the regional and sectional, but good enough to advance. Also making smart decisions for every shot.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I would have to say definitely Caddyshack.
Q: Does pineapple belong on pizza?
A: No, pineapple does not belong on pizza.
