Junior Isaac Goddard plays goalkeeper for the Minooka varsity soccer team. He recently saved two PKs in a win over Glenbard North in the BodyArmor tournment. This interview with Nook News has been edited for clarity and length.
Q: Who or what inspired you to play soccer ?
A: My teammates really inspire and push me to play.
Q: Do you plan on continuing your soccer career after high school?
A: I hope so. Baseball is also a sport I play so it’s all depending on where I go to college.
Q:Do you have any siblings who are also in soccer?
A: No.
Q: How would you rate your performance so far this season?
A: I’d say I’ve been pretty good. Coach (Nate Spriggs) and teammates have put a lot of trust in me, so I feel a little pressured.
Q: What position do you play, and how does your position contribute to the team?
A: Goalkeeper, I’m basically the last line of defense to prevent the ball from going in the net. That’s my job.
Q: Who was Minooka’s toughest opponent so far this season?
A: Definitely Normal Community (Minooka tied Normal 1-1. Goddard had five saves).
Q: Where do you see the team at the end of the season, and what are the goals for the end of the season?
A: The playoffs, and we are going for regionals.
Q: Who in your opinion is better, Messi or Ronaldo?
A: Man, I like them both. But if I had to choose, I’d say Messi.
Q: Last question, what is your favorite food?
A: Lasagna.
