Matthew Collofello is president of the student council at MCHS. The student council has been preparing for Homecoming, and they have been working hard to make it a fun time for all students at MCHS. This interview for Nook News has been edited for length and clarity.
Q: What is it like to be president of the student council?
A: Being president of student council is a big responsibility, but I have a lot of fun. As president I have to plan and arrange every meeting student council has. Homecoming has been stressful to prepare for.
Q: What is your favorite part of being president of the student council?
A: Affecting the entire student body in a positive way.
Q: How has the student council been preparing for Homecoming?
A: We started preparing for Homecoming in spring. We plan the Homecoming Week events and order supplies for those events. Another thing we have to do is choose a theme for Homecoming.
Q: I’ve seen a lot of people disagree with the Homecoming theme “Wildest Dreams” because not everyone likes Taylor Swift; how did the student council come up with the idea for this theme?
A: When we start thinking of Homecoming themes, we come up with four different themes and make vision boards for them. When “dreamy” was chosen to be our theme this year, some people felt it was too boring, so someone in student council suggested “Wildest Dreams.” There was no intention of correlating the name with Taylor Swift, but then someone else suggested we should add “MCHS version.”
Q: What are your thoughts on the theme?
A: I am not opposed to it. The Homecoming theme is still dreamy, and it is not Taylor Swift-themed.
Q: Are you a fan of Taylor Swift?
A: I don’t really know any of her songs
Q: What has been the hardest part about preparing for Homecoming?
A: Managing both campuses and arranging meetings.
Q: Are you going to be attending Homecoming yourself?
A: Of course.
Q: Besides student council, what else are you involved in?
A: I am a part of the e-sports team, a member of the SALT team, and I am also the vice president of Science National Honor Society club.
