Q&A with girls varsity coach Jeff Easthon
Coach Jeff Easthon is in his fifth season as the head Minooka varsity girls basketball coach. This interview with Nook News has been edited for clarity and length.
Q: What Improvements have you seen this season so far?
A: Ball movement and scoring. We struggled a bit early, but we’ve consistently been doing a good stringing together multiple positive possessions.
Q: What are you doing as a coach to improve your team?
A: Everything I can. Looking at film and breaking it down is probably my biggest focus now.
Q: What type of defense do you run?
A: We run a man to man. Mostly packline. We will press a little.
Q: Who are your star players?
A: We have lots of good players.
Q: How long have you coached at Minooka?
A: I think this is my 10th season
Q: What is your favorite part about basketball?
A: I like the competition. I’ve always played and loved to watch it, but in coaching, trying to figure out how to beat the other team and watching the girls come through.
Q: What made you get into coaching girls basketball?
A: I wanted to get into coaching basketball here at MCHS, did one year assistant JV with the boys and then the head JV job with the girls came open. I took it.
Q: Who was your favorite athlete as a kid?
A: Mark Price, PG for the Cavs. Joe Montana, Rickey Henderson. Old guys. You probably don’t know them.
