Varsity boys basketball drops loss to Oswego East
The Minooka boys basketball team looked to get their season back on track on Friday as they faced the undefeated Oswego East Wolves on Dec. 2. The Indians gave a valiant effort but ultimately fell short by a score of 68-35.
Oswego East came out hot right from the start, as they began the game on a 18-2 run. Minooka struggled on both sides of the ball in the first quarter, giving up 22 points and scoring just 6. The second quarter was much more competitive, with both teams putting up 15 points.
“We played an even second quarter 15-15,” head coach Kevin Cain said. “But we have to find ways to stop the bleeding much earlier, value the basketball, and get some shots to fall for us.”
Oswego East continued to pull away in the second half, however, as they opened up a 28-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Senior Preston Van Pelt played well for Minooka throughout the game and led the team in scoring with 10 points, but this was not enough to close the deficit, and the Indians ended up walking away with a loss.
“As a team I think we have to start controlling the pace of the game better, defensive fundamentals, and having longer offensive possessions to turn the season around,” Joseph Wunar, senior, said.
