Taylor Swift drops another surprise album to celebrate her birthday
Here I am again, reviewing yet another Taylor Swift album I wasn’t expecting!
evermore was announced on Dec. 10, 2020, to be released at midnight on Dec. 11. It has been marketed as a “sister album” to Swift’s folklore, released less than five months before.
Both albums have the same collaborators—Jack Antanoff, Aaron Dessner, William Bowery (the alias of Joe Alwyn), and Justin Vernon. However, evermore also features The National and HAIM.
Swift explained on Instagram that instead of just writing one album with collaborators, they decided to continue writing similarly-themed songs to create a whole other album. The last song they wrote was “happiness” which was written and recorded just a week before evermore was released.
“I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them,” Swift wrote on Twitter.
Along with the album came a music video for the song “willow,” which was a continuation of the music video for “cardigan,” the single from folklore. Swift once again had a medical inspector on set, “who made sure every precaution was taken for [their] safety,” the singer wrote on Instagram.
This album is slightly more upbeat, still with the same alternative style as folklore, which I enjoyed. It’s different from what Swift has released previously, but I personally like it more than anything she has done before.
There are songs on this album that can fit everyone’s music tastes. If you like Ariana Grande, you might like “closure.” If you like Olivia Rodrigo, you might like “champagne problems.”
So no matter which music you like, I recommend giving a listen to the entirety of evermore.
The album also includes two bonus tracks, “right where you left me” and “it’s time to go,” which were released with the deluxe edition CDs of evermore and put on Spotify in January.
evermore sends listeners on a journey with many directions, giving them an interesting, joyful experience.
