The girls swimming team was able to defeat the Tigers of Joliet West by a score of 74-67 on Oct. 1. This one meant a little more for the seniors as it was the last time they would compete together at a home meet. 

The team was able to jump out to an early lead in the diving component of the meet with senior Ava Adams winning the event.

Strong performances by freshman Eva Beck in the 200-meter IM and the 100-meter fly and senior Taylin Lemke in the 200-meter and 500-meter freestyle gave the team the edge in a closely contested meet. 

“I was really proud of myself that in my last home meet I got first!” Lemke said, “My emotions have a huge impact on how I swim, so I think by it being Senior Night, I was just filled with happiness and positivity.” 

This season was very different for the senior class. There were a lot of unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, so the seniors were very fortunate to be able to swim one last time as a group. 

“It was bittersweet to swim with my friends one last time at a home meet, but I am so happy that I have created lasting friendships with the rest of the seniors and the underclassman,” senior captain Nia Yost said. 

Many of the seniors are swimming in their fourth varsity season and will be leaving a positive legacy on the team. 

“This group will absolutely leave an impression on their teammates, and they have absolutely left one on me,” head coach Andrew Porth said.

Porth has coached and gotten to know these girls throughout their high school careers, and he feels that they are prepared and ready to take on whatever comes their way in the future.
