As the varsity girls volleyball season starts, the team looks to becoming a contender.

Last season the girls finished with an overall record of 25-12 and a conference record of 7-2. They also won the Lyons Invitational for the first time in Minooka history.

Returning head coach Carrie Prosek is excited for Team 19 and the new season. 

“We set our goals one week at a time but our outcome is to have a winning, fun, and healthy season,” Prosek said.

The Indians ended their 2018 season in the regional finals, losing to the eventual third-place team Benet Academy.

With five athletes graduating, the team has nine returning seniors, three juniors, and one sophomore.

Senior setter Zoey Seput, all-conference in 2018, is looking forward to a great season.

“Our goals are to play every game like it’s a championship game, to push one another, to play at our highest level possible, and to have fun on and off the court,” Seput said.

Senior middle Bailey Papesh hopes for the team to succeed as well. 

“Team goals for us have been to create an unbreakable bond and to succeed in our conference and post season while having fun also,” Papesh said.

The Indians are looking to start their season off strong at the Plainfield North tournament Friday, Aug. 30.
