Not just one, but two Minooka girls bowling teams had success in the same invitational on Jan. 19.

The Minooka girls bowling team put two teams into the Minooka Invitational, with both teams coming in the top five in the tournament at Channahon Lanes.

Among the top bowlers of the day, senior Kristina Sickler averaged a 207 for six games and came in 4th place.

Senior Gina Russell averaged a 245 and came in 1st place.

“It was great that Coach Y (Frank Yudzentis) decided to put two teams in the tournament. It really gave so many people the chance to bowl,” said senior Rachel Troska.

The whole day was a battle between teams. Over the course of the six games, Minooka and Joliet West went back and forth between first and second place with only a few pins defining what team was in what place.

“Being a senior, it was so great to participate in my very last Minooka Invite. It has been a great four years, and I will definitely come back in future years to cheer on the team,” said senior Donna Korzack.

The Minooka Black team was made up of the five seniors in the Minooka bowling program. With this being their last time to bowl in front of a large home crowd, many of them had very high expectations and many emotions.

After a long day of bowling, the sixth game came down to Minooka Orange and Joliet West on the same lane competing for first place. Minooka Black was bowling for third place.

In the end, Joliet West came out on top taking first, while Minooka Orange took second and Minooka Black took third.

Top Minooka bowlers included Russell in first, Sickler in fourth, Megan Gillson in fifth, Alyssa Ritchie in eighth, and Kiara Backstrom in 10th.

Overall, it was a very successful day for Minooka bowling with both teams placing in the tournament.
