The Minooka poms perform during the football season. Saturday, Minooka hosts one of the biggest dance competitions in the state.

Minooka hosts one of the largest dance competitions in the state this weekend, with nearly 40 schools competing.  Some of the top schools will be there.

The Minooka IHSA Dance Invitational is Saturday, Dec. 1 at Central Campus. Minooka JV competes at 9:16 a.m. and 12:08 p.m., then varsity competes at 10:52 a.m. and 3:12 p.m.

This year the Minooka poms are making their best effort to win competitions and make it to state. So far they have had one competition at Fremd, where the varsity placed 7th and junior varsity placed 13th. The girls have high standards for themselves.

“I think we are going to do well (this weekend) — like top 10,” Kennedy Ebner, sophomore, said.

Every individual of the poms team has a individual goal they strive for. They compete as a team but keep individual goals for themselves.

“I hope I do personally well as a strong dancer,” Hannah Karczewski, sophomore, said.

The girls have worked hard for themselves and each other. They plan to put on a show for their friends and family.

Karczewski said people will be surprised how far they have come since the beginning of the season.

Admission for the invitational is $8 for adults, and $4 for seniors and students with ID.  MCHS students and children under 10 are free.
