Siegel sets Minooka record at state tennis

Freshman Anna Siegel won more games (3) at the IHSA State Final in tennis than any girl in Minooka history.

Minooka varsity girls tennis player Anna Siegel had a historic year.  She went 24-1 during the season before competing in the IHSA State Finals, which began on Oct. 18.

In the finals, Siegel, a freshman, went 3-2, with her first loss coming to the eventual state champion.

Accepting a loss for some is hard, but Siegel seemed to accept it pretty well.

“I thought it was a good match,” Siegel said. “She just played better than me.”

Varsity head coach Julia Easter was cool this freshman playing at the varsity level.

“Definitely, she had a great experience from state,” Easter said. “She is putting Minooka on the map.”

Siegel finished in the top 12 at the State Finals.  Her three wins there were the most ever for a Minooka girl.  She also went undefeated in conference play.

While the season is over, she intends to play tennis in the USTA, a tennis association that travels the United States.

“It’s like a traveling the U.S. and playing tennis,” Siegel said.
