Young cheer squad set to move beyond the sidelines

After finishing 2nd in sectionals and 3rd in conference last year, the Minooka cheerleading team is looking to work hard and get ready to compete with other elite squads from Illinois at state.

“An obvious goal that they’ve had for a couple years now is making it to Day 2 of state. That will be our goal as well,” head coach Kelly Bielec said.

Minooka ended their season last year on the first day of state. With some familiar faces, young talent, and lots of leadership, this group of girls are confident that they can make something special this year happen. Leadership will be a huge part of this teams success this year.

“Our only senior, Emily Rogina, brings leadership to guide this young team into a strong, successful season. Stephanie Fenili, sophomore, is our most versatile athlete. She is our best tumbler, a great main base, and flies baskets,” Bielec said.

Minooka only has five upperclassmen, but with such a talented freshman class and key returning sophomores coming back, they truly have something special in store for them this season and the upcoming years.

“Ella Leitherer is an amazing flyer and will try anything you throw at her,” cheerleader, Kimi Gebhardt said.

Minooka begins their season Aug. 24 during the home football game. Minooka will be playing against Plainfield South.
