Since 1998, nearly two decades ago, Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg have been the stars of ESPN Radio. While their show, Mike and Mike, has been successful for so long, the two are ready to go their separate ways. Mike and Mike will host their last show on Nov. 17.

The sports talk show has always aired for from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays only. While their show was only on the radio at first, in 2004 ESPN started broadcasting it on television as well. The hosts, producers, and writers always felt that the radio was their primary focus.

ESPN’s top-rated show focused on the biggest sports topics of that day. The pair’s discussions often included heated debates on every sport. While the show could become serious at times, there was usually a very light, humorous atmosphere as the two often shared harmless banter.

“I’ve always enjoyed watching Mike and Mike because if I missed a big game the night before they will give me a great recap of the game. Also they are very fun to watch because of their funny banter and sarcasm,” senior Emily Goggins said.

Throughout the years, Golic and Greenberg have always been portrayed as tight, close friends inside and outside of the studio. According to Sports Illustrated, rumors started flying about their friendship following the announcement of their split.

Als reported to Sports Illustrated, inside sourcers and crew members of the show began to tell the media that tension between Golic and Greenberg has been high during the last few months. While this tension was not visible on screen, sources claim the two “are marvelous actors on set.”

Golic quickly shut down these claims of him and Greenberg’s heated relationship and was angry that his co-workers anonymously lied about the so-called tension. Greenberg obviously agreed with his longtime friend.

“We’ve been together a long time, and we’ve had a very close-knit staff over the years. We’ve had people work with us and most of them have been with us for years and years and years,” Greenberg reported to the New York Post. “So, if there are people that are talking anonymously about us, then sure, that would bother me, too. Absolutely, no question. So I agree with Mike completely.”

Greenberg also confirmed that he and Golic are still as good as friends as they have been the past 18 years, and he hopes their friendship will continue beyond their show. Despite the rumors around Mike and Mike’s split, their ending will be emotional considering the amount of time and memories the two have shared.

November will be an end of an era for Golic and Greenberg, but it will also be the beginning of a new chapter on both ends.

Golic’s new show with new co-host Trey Wingo called Golic and Wingo will first air on Nov. 27, just 10 days after the ending of Mike and Mike. The show will remain in the same time slot as Mike and Mike. Golic’s son, Mike Jr. will also appear in the show from 6 a.m.- 7 a.m.

Greenberg’s new morning show that was supposed to air in the beginning of January has now been pushed back to the spring due to the addition of two new partners. Michelle Beadle and Jalen Rose have officially been selected as Greenberg’s new co-hosts.

The Mike and Mike era has been a legendary one for ESPN as well as sports-lovers, but nothing lasts forever. Both Greenberg and Golic are excited to begin their new journeys, but of course, will miss their partner of nearly two decades.
