On Feb. 1, American rock band Imagine Dragons dropped a new single that will accompany their upcoming third studio album whose title has yet to be determined.

“Believer” was released first on Spotify and quickly found its way onto YouTube and now has close to 1 millions views.

The song itself is an extension of their entire last album, Smoke + Mirrors,  as a whole. It specifically reminds us a great deal of “Gold” but with more of an electronic undertone. Both songs focus heavily on problematic issues with different origins.

In “Gold” lead singer Dan Reynolds sings of the age-old problem of money and how it isn’t everything, even our downfall.

In “Believer” he speaks mainly of being able to confidently speak his mind and be who he is.

In an email accompanying the announcement of  the release of the single, Dan Reynolds explained the meaning behind the song.

“This last year has been the most centered and positive of my life. This song explains my realization that the emotional pain I faced the last few years actually helped me progress to this healthier mental space — that adversity truly is what helps you become a believer in yourself,” he wrote.  

Shortly after the release of the song, the band announced that it will be attending the Welcome! Music festival which will take place on April 3 at the Staple Center in Los Angeles.

It’s a festival where “all people are WELCOME. Every race. Religion. Culture. Ethnicity. Sex. EVERYONE,” according to the band. Daya, Macklemore, Halsey, Incubus, Skrillex, Tinashe, and Zedd will also be a part of the festival.

With the single released so close to the release date of their previous album, fans can only hope that an entire album will be following soon.

Imagine Dragons has hinted at the contents of a new album on Twitter with speed-drawing videos whose background music could be bits of the songs included on the album. There have been five videos so far with the fifth being the release of song title for “Believer.”
