Kimble stars on Discovery Channel
Survival shows on American television have always been rather popular amongst society. Whether it is watching Bear Grylls survive by himself with very few supplies in Man Vs. Wild, or watching people survive with no clothes on in Naked and Afraid, there have always been a variety of shows that test the human will to survive.
Starting tonight, the Discovery Channel will be putting a new spin on the survival genre on television that may be quite intriguing to people that living the Minooka area. The show is called The Wheel.
The Wheel challenges six contestants to battle through 60 days in the South American landscape, and each landscape significantly different than the last. Amongst the six contestants that will be competing on the show is Minooka native Adam Kimble, who graduated from MCHS in 2005.
In an interview with the Discovery Channel, Kimble described what was driving him to do this show.
“I am doing the wheel because one of my best friends, Mark Smith, was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in may,” said Kimble. “I was fortunate enough to stand in his wedding, he stood in my wedding.”
Kimble is a former college baseball player turned ultrarunner. He crossed the United States on foot a year ago in just 60 days, and in 2015 he won the China Gobi March, a race that lasted over 155 miles.
Kimble, along with the five other contestants, will be forced to survive without knowing when the next turn of the wheel will take place. With each turn of the wheel, the survivalists will be placed into a new isolated location exposed to the dangerous landscapes. Some of these include freezing terrains, rugged mountains, and treacherous rainforests.
Something that the contestants do not know is that each turn of the wheel is affected by the rotation of the moon. Each turn of the wheel will bring new challenges for each contestant to face, and requires a different skillset for each one.
The contestants will be equipped with small survival packs and an SOS device that they can activate at any time to stop the challenge and receive assistance. Kimble will have his hands full in this all-new survival challenge.
There will be a viewing party for the premiere of The Wheel tonight at the Village Church in Minooka, from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Kimble will be there to speak a little bit about the show and his late friend and MCHS teacher Smith.
The Wheel airs on the Discovery Channel Fridays at 9 p.m.
